Hi there, I'm no professional by any means but one part of the problem seems to be a wiring fault with the power steering. Could be causing power loss which drags your RPM down, causing it to stall out. Just a thought Hope it helps!

The only reason I can think of that could of caused this was that my battery went dead after my mate was spraying the front bumper & bonnet.
Even with the high miles I thought I was getting a good deal. Shame about the problems as it has put me right of VW's I forgot to say, the 1.6 Bora can't use a 1.6 Golf gearbox or clutch as the are different (and prob. only slightly). It is an 8V Thanks for your help Paul

Unplug your MAF, leave running and gently rev for a few minutes, your ide will drop to 900 rpm and remain nice and flat whilst unplugged.
